    "Emo" refers to a somewhat "arty" branch of Hardcore Punk, which, instead of following the trad. Hardcore rule "faster!" they instead wanted to express themselves in a more "emotional" [hence the name] way. Usually, Emo has Hardcore elements, but instead of rants about the gov. they use "expressive vocals". How, what SDRE did was take Fugazi's emo, and added the grunge influence and crooned vocals. Actually, SDRE was a quirk in Emo, as they also added "slow" moments to their song strucutres.

    i just read an article talking about how sunny day, while pretty much an underground band out of the seattle scene, basicly single handedly created the sound which influence the "emo" wave of this decade.
