Saying that, the modern dance does not have to use filipino hip hop music, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Also, really... there isn't much good filipino hip hop music, sorry, but it's true. American hip hop is way better and Filipinos listen to american music anyways, so it's not like we are dissin Filipino culture by not using any modern filipino Music. So in short, it's about quality and american music is better and more relevant to Filipino-American youths. We r teaching da parents our culture.

Culture: 1. the behaviors and beliefs characteristic of a particular social, ethnic, or age group. 2. the sum total of ways of living built up by a group of human beings and transmitted from one generation to another. Culture Night is suppose to not only reflect Filipino Culture as it was/is in the Philippines, but also how that culture has fused with the modern culture of america as many of us are born in america, so having a modern dance is relevant to pinoy life.

well its actually hard doing the routine again, and putting in some new choreo's changing most of the choreography in different parts of the performance... Well, not everyone can exactly adopt to some changes ya know.. :D

That explains a lot. Why dont we keep a disco dance then in all PCN's just because that was the dance they were doing at the time? What about hardcore punk music because many Filipinos like that too. Also why is the hip hop music non-Filipino? Why not use filipino hip hop? Its the only music in a PCN that has nothing culturally relevant to pinoy life. And I think I could imagine a PCN without modern. It would be great!

The best answer to your question is that it has been tradition for many, many years. Since the PCNs contain mostly cultural dance performances passed down through generations, its only appropriate that a modern dance performance is added to reflect the style of dance during the time the show was performed. It's the only thing that changes over the years. PCN started at UCI back in the 70's... they were probably doing disco! But seriously... can you imagine a PCN without a modern dance?
